What are Podcasts?
According to Merriam-Webster, a podcast is "a program (as of music or talk) made available in digital format for automatic download over the Internet." Podcasts can cover a broad range of topics and can be created for a number of audiences. Podcasts are a great teaching and learning tool and can be made easily accessible with transcripts. Whether you plan to record your own or supplement a lesson plan, podcasts can be beneficial teaching tools to reach and engage students.

- Apple PodcastsAn audio streaming app from Apple for streaming and playing podcasts. Includes popular and independent podcasts on a wide range of topics.
- Spotify PodcastsA free podcast platform hosted by Spotify that includes podcasts on many subjects from experts and independents.
- Google PodcastsGoogle's podcast application released in 2018. Allows users to search and listen to podcasts for free on a variety of devices.
- Audible PodcastsAmazon's podcast app to download and stream podcasts. Audible does not require a subscription to listen to free podcasts.
- Listen NotesA podcast search engine (think Google, but only podcasts). It can be used to curate podcast playlists or create podcast clips for free. Listen Notes also has a Podcast Academy to find podcast app reviews and tutorials for creating podcasts.
- PodcastREA collaborative project from the University of Wisconsin-Madison to archive podcasts and create an interface for searching them. PodcastRE contains metadata and links to over 1000 different podcast feeds. Search for the podcast on PodcastRE and listen to it from the original feed.
