LibGuides: Service Learning: Arkansas History

Introduction

This project involves helping local history agencies to transcribe historical documents, research historical buildings and photograph them, and other history related activities like volunteering for History Day under the guidance of Dr. Jami Forrester or cleaning neglected graves in local cemeteries.

Students also help with the Northwest Arkansas History Day contest, which is held annually on the NWACC campus.

Arkansas Gravestone Photo Project
The mission of the Arkansas Gravestones Project is to capture and archive digital images of our ancestors' gravestones. As decades pass the inscriptions on many gravestones are becoming difficult, if not impossible, to read. These archived images are one means of preserving these important records and simultaneously assist family history researchers who use this valuable, free, information-rich resource.

Arkansas Register of Historic Places
Arkansas Register listing constitutes a recognition of a particular property’s historic significance and in no way restricts or abridges the lawful owner’s right to use, modify or dispose of said property, although Arkansas Register listing may qualify the property owner for certain grant funds as they are available. The Arkansas Register is administered by the AHPP.
