This informal session invited faculty and staff to engage in an open dialogue about the challenges of burnout among students and us. Using insights from Creating Caring Campuses: A Faculty-Led Approach (Barnett et al., 2024) and The Anxious Generation (based on Haidt, 2024), we shared experiences, discussed current strategies, and identified areas where further support and training are needed. As facilitators, we aim to acknowledge the issue and support each other, without overpromising solutions or requiring specialized mental health training.
Learning Outcomes:
-
Recognize the signs and symptoms of burnout in students and faculty through shared experiences.
-
Engage in a collaborative conversation to share effective strategies and ideas for preventing burnout.
-
Determine key areas where additional training and support are needed to enhance well-being and create a caring campus culture.
