Information Literacy services for Faculty

Request Information Literacy & Library Instruction

We can conduct one session or scaffold instruction over multiple sessions.

Librarians provide instruction in three modalities:

  1. In person [your classroom or ours, the Library Classroom BH 1208]
  2. Remote synchronous [live streaming on Microsoft Teams or your preferred platform]
  3. Embedded librarian [ongoing student support inside Canvas]

Request a librarian to work with your students by filling this form below. Faculty may select multiple instruction formats to best meet their course objectives.

Assignment Review

Librarians can assist with your course assignment which involves research, we can recommend information literacy learning outcomes and assessment methods and suggest ways to incorporate library resources. This should help your students steer away from inferior websites and toward higher quality sources.

Contact Shawna Thorup for more information.

Online Anytime Information Literacy Instruction

Request Online Anytime Information Literacy Instruction

NWACC librarians will create digital learning objects such as videos, tutorials, research guides and Canvas modules tailored to your assignment, syllabus, and student learning outcomes.

Canvas Commons Modules

Check Canvas Commons for online, anytime content ready for you to use.

Reading Lists (NWACC Library Reading List)

Use NWACC Library Reading List (add within a Canvas module as an external tool in your Canvas course - click here for instruction) to customize your course by creating reading lists with quality content (journal articles, magazine articles or streaming videos) which is free for students to access and 100% copyright compliant.

Tutorials

Our tutorials guide students through a piece of content, such as a website, research database, or research activity, providing contextual information along the way. Tutorials can even include graded questions for assessing the student’s understanding of the content. See an example with this tutorial for Composition II.

Videos

Our videos cover both generalized and class-specific content. While a some are published on our Library Research Guides and YouTube, many are custom content for specific instructor. These customized videos can be placed directly within the Canvas module.

Library Guides/Subject Guides

NWACC Librarians have developed a series of guides covering many research and study skills, plus succinct guides to citation styles. Faculty may want to link to these in Canvas.

Additionally, the Librarians have developed Subject Guides for specific areas taught at NWACC. These typically cover basic research techniques; library research sources, including our large collection of databases; and high-quality web sites.

Reserve the Library Classroom

Do you need a classroom for your students to do research and work on assignments or a large meeting space?

The Library Classroom in BH 1208 has a collaborative, small group seating arrangement, 24 laptops, and a presenter computer with a projector and a Smart Board.

Library Tours and Orientation

This is not a Library Information Literacy session. If you would like more library information than 20 minutes allows, overviews of the databases, or or other Library Information Literacy Instruction, please request using the Information Literacy Instruction form instead.

Library tours last approximately 10-20 minutes. They are best held during the first 3-4 weeks of the semester. Please book at least one week in advance if possible.

Streaming Media for your Course

To request a streaming video purchase for your course please use the form below.

Please submit streaming video requests at least 2 weeks before they are needed. Due to licensing costs and budgetary considerations, requests are approved on a first-come basis while funds remain. Most streaming licenses are valid for one year from the date of activation and must be renewed every year. You may view options for streaming databases to see what is already available.

Journals & Magazines for Faculty & Staff
