Annotated Bibliography

A guide to creating an annotated bibliography in any class.

Create the Structure

Each entry on the annotated bibliography has four elements. The elements typically follow this order:

  1. Citation for the source: Which citation style is your class using or does your academic discipline use?
  2. Summary of the source: What are the key points made by this source?
  3. Evaluation of the source: What makes this a quality source?
  4. Use for the source: How might you use this source in your paper?
