Information Literacy Guide for Faculty

This guide is designed to help you learn about information literacy (IL) instruction services offered by NWACC Library

Plan Your Session: Logistics & Tips

What we’ll need

  • Course & section, plus preferred date(s)
  • Assignment prompt and your learning outcomes (drafts welcome)
  • Modality: in-person (your room or BH 1208), live online (Teams), Canvas, hybrid, or flipped
  • Any student needs or accommodations we should plan for

Timing tips

  • Schedule near the assignment. Students learn best when they’re starting research.
  • Two-touch model. Try an early intro → follow-up workshop later (e.g., topic → sources & citation).
  • Flipped/hybrid friendly. We can supply short pre-class videos/modules so live time is hands-on.

Spaces & technology

  • In person: your classroom or the Library Classroom (BH 1208)
  • Online: Canvas (asynchronous) or Microsoft Teams (or your preferred platform for remote synchronous)
  • Support models: one-time visit, Class Librarian (repeat visits), Embedded Librarian in Canvas, or a digital learning object

Accessibility

  • Captioned media and screen-reader friendly slides
  • Activities designed for varied pace/skills
  • Materials available in multiple formats (handouts, Canvas pages, short videos)

After the session

  • Follow-ups: drop-ins, Q&A threads in Canvas, or 1:1 librarian appointments
  • Lightweight assessments: minute papers, source checks, or brief rubrics aligned to your outcomes (templates available)
  • Need a refresher or digital object for drafts/revisions? Just ask.

Assignment Review

Send your prompt (drafts welcome). We’ll suggest right-sized IL outcomes and quick assessments, flag common stumbling blocks, and recommend targeted resources. We can also provide plug-and-play materials (checklists, worksheets, short videos, Canvas pages).

Use the form(s) below to share your preferred date(s), modality, and whether you’d like a Class Librarian, embedded support, assignment review, or a digital learning object.

Together for Student Success

We’re here for you and your students. Partnering with a librarian means you can focus on your subject expertise while we bring the information literacy expertise. Together, we’ll make assignments smoother, strengthen research skills, and help students succeed now and carry those abilities into future courses, careers, and life.
