Request Information Literacy & Library Instruction

We can conduct one session or scaffold instruction over multiple sessions. View our Information Literacy Guide For Faculty for more information about library instruction.

Librarians provide instruction in three modalities:

  1. In person [your classroom or ours, the Library Classroom BH 1208]

  2. Remote synchronous [live streaming on Microsoft Teams or your preferred platform]

  3. Embedded librarian [ongoing student support inside Canvas]

Request a librarian to work with your students by filling this form below. Faculty may select multiple instruction formats to best meet their course objectives.

Assignment Review

Librarians can assist with your course assignment which involves research, we can recommend information literacy learning outcomes and assessment methods and suggest ways to incorporate library resources. This should help your students steer away from inferior websites and toward higher quality sources.

Contact us for more information.

Scheduling an Instructional Session

Instruction is most useful when connected to a research assignment usually within 3 weeks of an assignment due date and near the time it is introduced to students.

  • A one week notice is required, but submit your request early to get your preferred date.  A minimum of two weeks notice is preferred. Your assigned liaison will email you at the beginning of each semester about instruction requests.
  • We can book you into our Library Classroom BH 1208 or a librarian can come to your location.
  • Faculty must be present at library instruction sessions.

Complete the Instruction Request Form (called "Book a Librarian") found below to get started.

For optimal results:

  • Provide a copy of your assignment and share your specific objectives so we can tailor the presentation to suit your needs.
  • Familiarize students with the assignment objectives and arrive with potential topics, research questions, or other specific information needs in mind before the library session. For increased retention, library instruction includes the opportunity for students to research their topics in a hands-on, learner-centered environment.

After the instructional session, please provide us with feedback through our Instruction Feedback Form. We value your feedback and use it to tweak our instructional methods and practices.
