Why citation styles are like accents

All citation styles answer 4 questions:

  1. WHO
  2. created WHAT
  3. WHEN, and
  4. WHERE can your reader find it?

The way each style formats their citations to include the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, and WHERE are the "accent" or "dialect" in which they "speak citation." This is true both on the bibliography at the end of your work and in the way you reference the source inside your essay, presentation, or speech (in text).
