Linking to Database Content in Canvas, Email, and Online: LexisNexis

This guide explains how to create "permalinks" to articles, videos, electronic books, and other content within NWACC Library's subscrption databases.

Linking to Articles in LexisNexis While Off Campus

To link to content in LexisNexis, while off campus  (for instance, from your home), follow these steps. These instructions only work off campus. Please see the other set of instructions when on campus:

1. Locate the article you want to link to in LexisNexis.

2. Locate and click the Copy Document Link icon on the right side of the article. (See screenshot.)

3. A pop-up window will appear. Follow the onscreen instructions for copying the document URL. (The easiest way is to simply right-click the link and choose Copy Link Location.)

4. Paste the URL into Canvas, an email, on a website, or wherever else you want to share the article.

5. A direct link to the article will appear.

6. When off-campus users click this link, they'll be asked to log in with their My NWACC Connection username and password.

7. After logging in, off-campus users will be taken directly to the article's information page, where they can access the full text of the article. (On-campus users, don't have to authenticate. They'll be immediately taken to the article when they click the link.)

4. Before saving or sending the link, paste the following referring URL in front of the document URL:

https://proxy01.nwacc.edu:2048/login?url=

(Adding this referring URL is necessary because it points to an NWACC authentication server, to verify that the user is authorized to access the database. Not adding this referring URL will make the link inaccessible to off-campus users.)

For instance, the following document URL...

http://www.lexisnexis.com/lnacui2api/api/version1/getDocCui?lni=5900-R771-JCBG-G2NB&csi=257912&hl=t&hv=t&hnsd=f&hns=t&hgn=t&oc=00240&perma=true

...should be formatted like this before it's shared with other members of the NWACC community:

https://proxy01.nwacc.edu:2048/login?url=http://www.lexisnexis.com/lnacui2api/api/version1/getDocCui?lni=5900-R771-JCBG-G2NB&csi=257912&hl=t&hv=t&hnsd=f&hns=t&hgn=t&oc=00240&perma=true

After adding the referring URL, save or send the link.
